Louis Turpin

"I work in oil on canvas and ink on paper. My paintings deal with colour and form, bold gestural lines vie with smaller marks all anchored by fine lines. I observe and translate my subjects and feel the necessity of approaching work with energy and speed. My drawings employ a similar approach but with the obvious reduction to monochrome.

My chosen subjects range from landscape, through gardens and ponds, to sheep and snowscapes. I also explore the human figure in its environment and I paint a small number of portrait commissions each year.

I trained in Fine Art Painting at Falmouth School of Art, have worked full time as a painter since 1985 and have exhibited widely. I have had many solo shows in London, Bath, Henley, Oxford, York, Rye, Greenwich Connecticut and Paris. I have also exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Academy, The Royal Society of Portrait Painters and international art fairs".

Back in September 2021, Louis sat down in the gallery to chat with our director Julian Day and an audience of very enthused customers. The full interview can be view on YouTube by following this link :
