Funding
The Trustees were delighted that their August 2009 bid for funding from Rye Town and Rother District Councils was successful. Some £30K was allocated to enable the key parts of the development project to be completed. However, more funds would be welcome to provide some additional future improvements, such as new lighting, exhibition hanging and access improvements. All these aspirations remain in the standing strategic plan (available from the Chair Trustees). We welcome further donations from any source. If you would like to help then please contact the Chair of Trustees or the Manager at the Easton Rooms.
Rother District Council (August 2009) PRESS RELEASE:
"A newly developed gallery is to benefit from £25,000 of council funding. Rye Art Gallery is part way through a plan to improve its facilities and create more exhibition and visitor space.
The project will cost almost £300,000 in total. Rother District Council's cabinet agreed this week to grant funding which will assist with the final £95,000 phase of the scheme. Rother has supported the art gallery with a series of other grants in recent years, including a grant of £3,000. The money has come from the first round of the Council's community grants scheme. A total of £130,000 is made available each year for community groups and organisations who meet the grant criteria. Several good causes have already benefited from grants totalling thousands of pounds.
Rye Town Council has also pledged £5,000 to the project.
Cllr Deirdre Williams, Rother cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure, said: "The gallery is set to be a valued community facility for people of all ages and the Council is delighted to support the project through the community grants scheme."
Rother District Council member for Rye Cllr David Russell said: "I greatly welcome the decision reached by cabinet to support Rye Art Gallery. "It should be noted the gallery have raised much of the money themselves for this project and are deserving of this support."
